New York Resident and Non-Resident Licensure - Important

When applying for your New York resident or non-resident licensure, make sure to choose the Life Agent designation.  Do not select the Life Broker designation. As per New York regulations, Brokers CANNOT be appointed to insurance companies.  This means NLG cannot appoint or commission agents with a Life Broker designation.  Business written under the Life Broker license will be closed by NLG. New client applications can be submitted once the agent has the correct Life Agent license.  Agents with a Life Broker license will need to contact the New York State Department of Financial Services at Licensing@DFS.NY.Gov or 518-474-6630 to have their license changed to the Life Agent designation.
